the fifa world cup (2018) is a perfect comparison to the economy of the world. there are a lot of different actors in play--teams, fans, staff, security, analysts, and even those that don't pay attention--all connected together in a complex web complete with dynamic logistics, just like in global economics.
in this parallel, all the east coast hipsters would be cheering for the same team: bitcoin. bitcoin is just an ok team. not terrible, but not very good either. they had a run of surprising form in recent memory. the trouble is the east coast hipsters seem to think it is the very best team and are really annoying about letting you know they are cheering for it. they bought the jersey. they bought the memorabilia. they took out loans to buy tickets to the game. they are bandwagoners, these east coast hipsters. "this team is unstoppable," they say. "it will replace banks." then they try to sell the jersey and memorabilia to you. they reminisce about how if they had started cheering for this team a while ago they would have been richly rewarded.
the good news is that bitcoin won't make it anywhere near the finals.
