good invention spotlight 010

speaking of time capsules, let's give it up for capsules that constantly tell time. I'm talking about clocks. these little guys are doing work around the globe, from sun-up to sun-down, keeping our logistics running smoothly. from digital devices to household appliances, internal tickers--and tockers--keep the world in sync.

did you know there are 25 different types of mechanisms that operate clocks? I'll name them for you:
  • astronomical clock
  • atomic clock
  • candle clock
  • congreve clock
  • conical pendulum clock
  • digital clock
  • electric clock
  • flip clock
  • hourglass
  • incense clock
  • mechanical watch
  • oil-lamp clock
  • pendulum clock
  • pipe organ clock
  • projection clock
  • pulsar clock
  • quantum clock
  • quartz clock
  • radio clock
  • rolling ball clock
  • spring drive watch
  • steam clock
  • sundial
  • torsion pendulum clock
  • water clock
now you know!

the good invention spotlight is a series here on frank's new blog with the humble mission of recognizing useful everyday inventions that people may take for granted. it begs the question: how did people ever make do without? we certainly couldn't.
