So it's Noisevember, as you are all aware, but, interestingly, the thing that has stood out to me during this first week isn't just the incredible amount of noise that we encounter in our day to day lives; it's also the silence.
Silence is a big part of noise. Silence can be thought of a few ways... most people--myself included--normally think of silence as the absence of noise. I've been paying extra attention to noises this month, and so far, I've noticed that, firstly, silences are not devoid of noise. There always seem to be noises going on even in the quiet moments. Finally, I've noticed silences can be loud. I think you know what I mean, but to make myself more clear, the weight present in some silences is deafening.
My point is this: silence is more than lack of sound. More aptly, you might say silence is tranquility. You can find silence in places ripe with noise just as much as noise dampened chambers.
Something to think about.
