Being rock-like

Rocks have been around for millions of years. They are much older than you and I. With that age comes some wisdom, but they didn't get so old on wisdom alone--rocks are also made of tough stuff. There is a common vein of expressions in which people, things, etc., are compared via similes and metaphors to rocks. (He was like a rock, facing down the tempest. Dwayne the rock. This bread is hard as a rock.) Rocks are symbols of strength--unwavering in the face of the events going on around them, staring into the infinite. Daring nature to run it's course. Slowly being worn down and ground to bits by the elements...

...an inevitable end, but one that takes a large expenditure of energy to make possible...

...and from that end comes something new.

Rocks are the only survivors we will ever meet as humans. After all, when they are worn down by the elements or pulverized by humans, they aren't really destroyed; merely remade as many smaller parts. First boulders, then stones, then pebbles, then, eventually, sand.

"Through my destruction,
you will poetically fuel your own demise.
Yes, the deserts will grow from my essence,
and you will be left without sustenance."
 - Ghorlu'd, Rock Mystic

Rocks will see many more sunrises and sunsets than you or I.
