old year special

we've got a day of special programming for you here at frank's new blog, but we'll start things off simple. that's right, it's the hits and misses of the past year, 2017.

2017 misses

1. 2017 new year's resolution: 2-handed dunk on a standard 10 ft. basketball rim
I failed my resolution for the year. I didn't even succeed in 1-handed dunking, which was one of my progression goals on the way to achieving my resolution. I was going to jump rope every day to get stronger and maximize my jumping ability. I didn't though. so that's miss #1! ok, up next...

2. that's misses, not mrs.
wrong kind of "miss," ha ha, still single. just a little joke.

3. not one of the 7 people I would date or at least be friends with reciprocated
sometimes when you put yourself out there you get hurt. let me tell you, this one hurts. I guess I just sort of thought that I was... I dunno... creative enough? guess not. sorry. I know this is a bit of a sad way to end a year--running through misses. a real downer.

4. viral video attempt
I made a few topical and dynamic videos and they all felt like viral sensations to me. maybe I'm not creative enough after all. this list wasn't one of my best ideas.

5. the united states men's national team failed to qualify for the world cup
yes, for the first time in a long while the united states won't be at the fifa world cup. looking at the competition in concacaf you would hope they would qualify...it's not a very hard group. and 4 of the 6 make it!!? even panama qualified. it will be sad not to see the usmnt play this summer. also, I was thinking about it, and you would think that at least one of them might at least acknowledge my list, that's all I'm saying. I just would like a bit of recognition. even if nothing came of it, I wouldn't mind. but just silence? it's cruel.

6. didn't win the lottery
I just wish they would give a reason. any reason. even if they were lying. just for a bit of closure. maybe they're super busy.

7. this stupid list
I'm going to skip ahead to the hits because I'm really starting to get ticked off and bummed out, which is never a good combination. I'll come back to the misses later when I'm feeling more up to it.

8. miss

9. miss

10. miss

but it wasn't all bad... there were some hits as well!

2017 hits

1. the year I singlehandedly saved blogging
you're welcome. and let me say unto you, thank you as well. speaking of...

2. the year we singlehandedly saved blogging
yes, I am not so bold as to keep all the credit just for me. I am not zeus on top of mount olympus. no, I am just.. me. but without you, my loyal readers, I wouldn't even be that.

3. no cavities
another year, another clean bill of health from the dentist. but my gums are a little rough. I think I need to floss more or something.

4. had some great ideas
I've had some pretty great ideas in 2017.

5. I turned 23
comment about hit from 2017.

6. cool haircut (mullet)
it didn't last very long. it was pretty cool while it lasted though.

7. bop it trick shots, dabbing, new dabbing, don't dabbing
all in all, hilarity ensued in what I'm trying to say.

8. talked to maybe 20 girls
that's almost two a month! not bad! I counted some of them multiple times. it might be more accurate to say I had 20 conversations with girls. (still good.)

9. I thought episode 8 was pretty good
I liked the new star wars movie. sue me, heh. speaking of, be on the lookout for my upcoming post with my rankings of the movies I saw in 2017.

10. had some pretty good pizza
and A LOT of it. now that I think about it, 2017 wasn't so bad. wasn't so good either. the real bummer is that they didn't say anything. not one of them. is it so hard? they didn't have to agree to date me or whatever. just something to show they saw it, and then I would take the hint and let it slide. I'm leaving this one in 2017, that's for sure.

What about you?!
any hits or misses of 2017 you'd like to share? I'd like to know!

be sure to check back throughout the day to see more posts reflecting on the year 2017 as part of the old year special

freaky

if you think about it this message is sent from a crazy... type of... time... portal. a portal to the past. this message time traveled from a previous day, when I wrote it in my room. where I am right now. but... as it's posting right now... I'm also at my grandparent's house. I'm not certain what kind of internet coverage I have today, tuesday, so to be safe I'm writing it from my room.

if I could ask my future self one question, I guess I would ask if I have a girlfriend yet.

...well?

probably not since I'm at my grandparent's house. at least I hope not! ha ha! I'm kidding around.

it's kind of crazy knowing that I can talk to my future self, but he will never be able to talk back to me. I can give myself some goofy little tidbit of advice... or even bad advice. and he (I) won't be able to get revenge on myself. kind of a cool trick... might make use of it.

the past is the ultimate armour.

anyway, hope the future is rad. good luck.

days until christmas

it is     1    ! day(s) until Christmas!

guess who's comin'

a note to my loyal readers:

hello,

I wanted to let you know about a new development here on frank's new blog, so I'm going to! heh.

that's right, scheduled posts are here. fear not, like southwest airlines I believe in transfarency. what does that mean? it means that every scheduled post will be denoted with a "(sched.)" tag. (that's short for scheduled.) I'm excited that this development will give me the ability to avoid missing a daily post during times when internet access may be limited. however, I also know that this is a resource I shouldn't abuse. that would be a disservice to my loyal readers. "oh, real engaging. he blogs once a week," they'd say. see the danger? this is a resource I will be VERY CAREFUL with.

thank you,

darkest day

today is the winter solstice, and that means today is the darkest day. it's all uphill from here! until the summer solstice when it's all downhill again. until the next winter solstice when it's all uphill. it's an endless loop until the sun explodes. welcome aboard spaceship earth, ladies and gentlemen.

the doorstep of defeat

my loyal readers!
hark!
listen to my lamentations!
know my shame is this:
greater than the expanse of the great plains,
rockier than the peaks of the rocky mountains.

there exists no mortal word
spoken from mortal tongue
falling on mortal ear
to undo the harm I have done,
to rebuild the trust I have wrought.

alas, it is true,
I missed a day of posting
to my blog.

to my loyal readers:
forgive me.
I'm certain you worried with my delay,
and may have remained vigilant,
restless
long into the night.
refreshing the page for the post
that never was.

it is my pledge to you,
loyal reader,
dear friend,
companion, compatriot, commander
that I will not miss another daily post
without issuing a note of warning.

And if I may....
..be so bold. ..
and so cunning.....
as to say:
in pacific time,
it brings me joy to note,
it's yesterday.

a fun way to get some 'za (guide with pictures)

next time you are with a group of people and you decide you are going to order some pizza (online), you might want to try this!

step 1- genesis
with at least 1 other person, decide you are going to order pizza online.
  • in our case, we had 3 people: fian, nick, and I.

step 2- deals and steals.
find a good online coupon deal.
  • we opted for dominoes' $5.99-for-each-medium-2-topping-pizza-when-you-order-at-least-2-medium-2-topping-pizzas deal (we ordered 3)
  • tip: pick a good online coupon deal for a restaurant that's close enough for carry-out... if you're feeling up to it! it gives a good reason to get outside the house and you save the money that you'd otherwise have to tip the messenger. also builds anticipation when picking up the pizzas and the smells that come with them--more on that later

step 3- prisoner's dilemma!
everyone takes a turn building a pizza and adding it to the order without the others knowing what you've ordered

  • this is where the fun begins. fian, nick, and I each built a pizza. none of us knew what the others had selected (toppings, sauce, etcetera).
  • food for thought: will you build something everyone will enjoy? or try to create something strange...what will your compatriots do...?

step 4- contact.
place the order.
  • this step worked well for us, because we had ben with us and he wasn't going to eat any pizza, but he was willing to place the order for us. at the very least, have an honorable person place the order who won't spoil the fun by reading what type of pizza the others ordered.

step 5- through the looking glass (optional).
if you selected carry-out, go pick up the pizza!
  • tip: dominoes offers a nifty pizza tracker after you order from them online. you can track the build progression of your pizzas and make the appropriate travel arrangements accordingly.

step 6- follow your nose.
before opening the pizza boxes, take turns trying to guess what the others ordered based on the smell assortment.

step 7- world premiere.
the big reveal...toss open those lids and view your creations, Dr. Frankenstein.

  • I created a pizza with bbq sauce, chicken, and green peppers. nick created a pizza with a creamy white alfredo sauce, beef, and green peppers. fian created a pizza with bbq sauce, chicken, and pineapple. (from top to bottom) interesting...

step 8- synergy? (optional)
for an extra bit of fun, start the meal by stacking a slice from all the pizzas on top of each other and dig in. bon appetit

yum! I hope you enjoyed this guide. let me know your results if you try this yourselves!

analyzing some cryptocurrencies

just working on a big algorithm to crunch these numbers for me (I usually do this in my head, but when the technology exists to make life easier... when in Rome, as they say)
cryptocurrency is the future, and you need to buy buy buy. ..in fact. ..you could let me buy for you. ..for a fair percentage.

7 people who i would date or at least be friends with

in no particular order

daisy ridley
she's a great actress and always has a great attitude. did I mention star wars? that's a plus hah! with her talent and resources and my creativity, there's no telling what crazy and cool things we could do

natalie portman

a little older, but I'm into it so who cares is what I say! that doesn't matter! uhhh, hello, Star Wars! and have you seen the video of her rapping on snl from 2006? now that's funny. with her talent and resources and my creativity, we could do some cool stuff.

kate beckinsale
talk about a little older ha ha! (just kidding kate) we're both young at heart. besides, women live longer than men so with her resources/talent and my creativity, we could do something awesome.

emily blunt
real life jim and pam? move aside... because well ok with her resources, talent and my creativity, the world couldn't. even. deal.

ryan gosling
the new hot commodity in Hollywood teamed up with everyone's favorite hunk ryan gosling? now this I gotta see. with his talent and resources and my creativity, watch out!

evangeline lilly
LOST

amy adams and rachel mcadams
just a few successful and cool people who also happen to be actresses. did I just win the lottery!??! with their talent and resources and my creativity... one word: wow.

I wouldn't be mad about anyone on this list dating me or at least being friends with me!

aftershocks

I'm getting a lot of critiques. cut your hair in a unique way and suddenly everyone's a barber

"why do you want a mullet."
                -roy (dad)

"that haircut is preposterous"
               -mtgruber

"Should have asked for a hand! One of us could have given you something respectable!"
              -john

"ive been training on the self haircut for a bit now. i could give you some helpful hints"
              -michael

sometimes you just get a case of the mondays...

even on a thursday....

don't let that get you down

if there's one thing I know about the stock market, it's that sometimes stocks are down, but sometimes stocks are up. that's the market. when stocks are down you sell everything to prevent further losses. and when stocks are up you sell everything to get a good return on investment. yep, stocks are a game of selling. but they're also a game of buying.

still with me?

when things are looking like they'll get better, you buy. it's all about timing. when you buy at the right moment, or sell at the right moment, you can ensure your portfolio achieves maximum gains.

it's also important to diversify your investments.

I hope this has helped you. remember, stocks go up and stocks go down and that's this silly thing we call the stock market aka life

the little things

some people would look at this and say:

"that's just cracks in paint."

not me.

for years and years and years I've noticed this little guy when I sit in the downstairs bathroom of my parent's house. maybe you notice him, too. he sits on the bottom corner of the windowsill just above the toilet paper roll.

it's funny, I forget he exists until I'm sitting, mind wandering, and he catches my eye.
hey there, little fella ...

he's some sort of antelope, that much I'm sure. I wonder what kind of life he leads. ..I imagine he's happy here. he's got a great view of the pouring waterfalls formed out of swirling paint strokes on the door.

it makes you wonder what it's all about.

yes, I'm pooping right now.

welcome to hello

I wrote a song about today. today is december 5th (a tuesday).

it goes like this:

        today is the day
        today is the time
        today is the moment
        when my luck will shine

today isn't just another boring tuesdaaaaaay

     [heavy pause]

        because today is december 5th
and that's a day you don't wanna mess with
        much like myself
it's a day full of wealth
        of character and niceties

        oh.
        what.
        I.
        would.
        give.

to have each day be a clone of it

        tuesday, december 5th.

it's pretty good I think, but I am a bit biased. hah!
